Step 1Opening the Image
Open the Image in Photoshop by going to File Menu. There is a sub-item in the File menu called Open. File->Open or use the shortcut: CTRL+O (Windows). For Mac user’s shortcut is Command+O.
Step 2 Selection of Pen tool
Select the Pen tool by using the cursor or the shortcut :P” on the keyboard on your laptop or PC.
Step 3 Making Path ready
As in any photo editing software you select the object which you want to remove or color. This selection in photoshop we call clipping path.
To make a clipping path
- Go to layer panel.
- Click Path
- Move your cursor down
- Click Create a New Path
Step 4 Drawing of Clipping Path
Choose the photo and draw around it using the pen tool.
- Make sure you zoom the image 200-300 percent so that you see the edges.
- Add some anchor points. These points enable you to draw lines around the object.
Step 5 Converting the Selection
In this step we convert the path we drew earlier into selection. To do this follow the simple steps:
- Move cursor to Path tab.
- Select the path you drew earlier.
- Right Click.
- Choose:” Make Selection.”
- Place values either 0.5 or 1 in the dialog box that appears.
- Feather Radius -0.5 0r 1.
Step 6 Inverse the Selection
Next Inverse the selection by pressing Inverse from Select Menu in Photoshop,
Or you can use shortcut:” CTRL+Shift+I” by pressing these buttons together in the keyboard.
Step 7 Duplicating the background layer
Duplicate background layer. Follow the steps below:
- Move your cursor to Layer Tab
- Select background layer
- Right-click.
- In the popup menu, Chose the “Duplicate Layer”.
- You see eye icon. Press keyboard ALT and click eye icon to hide the layer. Do this for original layer.
Step 8 Deletion of Background.
Delete the background. To do this follow the steps:
- Select background copy This copies you made in earlier, step 1.7.
Step 9 Saving the work.
Save the file by pressing CTRL+S. You also do this from the file menu.
The prefect tool for making clipping path and photo editing in a large scale is Adobe Photoshop. There are various versions of Photoshop. Recommended using latest and that would be Adobe Photoshop CC.
Some common File Formats. In Photoshop it is important to note the file extension that is need. Since size and quality is depended on the extensions.
You can choose to save it to the format of original file. Say if the file was .jpg, save it in that format. It depends on why you need this work for.
